More than 2 million Southerners have returned to South Sudan since 2005, following the end of the North–South civil war. Building on research conducted in South Sudan, as well as Egypt and northern Uganda, Ensor examines the process of reintegration of refugees and internally displaced persons returning to South Sudan since the signing of the 2005 Peace Agreement. The study focuses on the role played by displaced youth as they find themselves differentially situated vis-à-vis…
In an effort to move beyond the focus on the immediate threat of large-scale conflict, this report (2012) explores what type of state can realistically be expected to materialise in South Sudan in the short and medium term, given existing political economy and security constraints. It also discusses what this assessment implies for donor engagement. Download
South Sudan’s fragility assessment aims to provide a first, and still limited, overview of progress, challenges and priority actions to help the country advance towards resilience.
