This report is based on field research on acceptance as an approach to NGO security management in South Sudan. The research team explored three areas of an acceptance approach to security management: (1) how organizations gain and maintain acceptance, (2) how organizations assess and monitor the presence and degree of acceptance, and (3) how organizations determine whether acceptance is effective. This report looks into the opportunities and constraints of local initiatives for peace and their contribution to the resolution of conflict at the local level, with a particular focus on women initiatives. Secondly, it seeks to explore in what ways outsiders could provide meaningful contributions to such initiatives. The research focuses on the case of local initiatives for peace in southern Sudan, and in particular on the Sudanese Women’s Voice for Peace, a Sudanese NGO.
