This report explores the impact of economic shocks on household income and expenditure, as well as identifies the coping strategies that South Sudanese implement in face of the worsening economic conditions. A real impact of these economic shocks is identified for South Sudanese mental health and well-being, food insecurity and reduced incomes. Through a study in five countries, including South Sudan, this report aims at exploring the degree of inclusion in inter-agency standing committee (IASC) coordination mechanism leadership structures of local and national non-governmental organisations (L/NNGOs). The study identifies key challenges that limit L/NNGOs meaningful participation and influence, as well as recommendations and good practices to navigate these. Read more here
This article considers return movements of refugees between Uganda and South Sudan, to investigate the motivation of returns as linked to the gradual reduction of aid and livelihood in Uganda. The article provides insights on an alternative understanding of returns to repatriation or empowering socio-economic opportunity, showcasing the split of South Sudanese households to sustain their life among hardship in Uganda, to effectively “fund their refugeehood”. This analysis aims at assessing perceptions of peace in their country by South Sudanese, based on quantitative data collection. The research found that respondents agree that peace is present in the country, however most identify diverging priorities to quantify peace (justice, human rights, safety, etc.). The report found that fighting among age sets have resulted in widespread intra-communal violence, with a wider implications on aid delivery. This report explores the experience of the African Union High Level Panels for Darfur, Sudan and South Sudan. The report finds that the current peacemaking efforts in Darfur, Sudan and South Sudan have been more fragmented and narrowly focus, unlike the comprehensive, principled, and coordinated multilateral approaches witnessed in the last 10-15 years.
